Both teams did exceptionally well in representing the Academy and demonstrated determination, resilience and creative flair throughout the course of the day.

The Archimedes team won silver in the 'Jelly Baby Towers' event which beats our bronze medal won last year.

Well done to all who took part.

Our hosts, A-level Drama / Theatre students Oliver Foster and Luke Watson led us through a fantastic night of performing arts. All of the student 'acts' were brilliant and were so professional! Not only did they perform in the evening, they also performed a morning and afternoon show for our partner primary schools.
The show was completed by our fabulous acoustic 'rain choir' conducted by Level 3 Music students.

Educational Garden Success! http://www.kearsleyacademy.org/news/educational-garden-success http://www.kearsleyacademy.org/news/permalink/99 Fri, 14 Dec 2012 20:11:00 +0000 Church transformed into a top attraction for families The following article is taken from the Bolton Evening News.

8:06am Friday 14th December 2012 in Bolton Evening News

A CHURCH is set to become a star attraction for families and schoolchildren.

Kearsley Mount Methodist Church has transformed its grounds after striking it lucky with almost £50,000 of Big Lottery Funding.
And pupils from nearby Kearsley Academy have helped put the finishing touches to the church grounds by introducing fun educational and nature trails so families can explore the grounds.Visitors will be equipped with specially provided funky backpacks containing information and worksheets to take part in the activities. Kearsley Academy’s school council was approached by Stephen Tonge, church council member for the community and school governor, to design an education trail linked to the primary school curriculum.Over the past eight months the pupils have created a master noticeboard which illustrates the areas of the gardens and special features. There is a frog trail featuring plastic numbered frogs for primary school children and for older children and adults there will be a heritage trail.
The pupils have also designed signs in the gardens directing people to the Peace Garden and the Community Garden. They gave a special presentation of what they had done to church and community members.
Assistant Principal at Kearsley Academy Mel Hughes said: “The young people have designed the garden so it is interactive for children and families.
“Their idea was to get more people to use the garden and see it is an extra facility and resource.”
The church received just over £48,000 of funding to transform its grounds for the community to enjoy. bMiss Hughes added: “Young people are really passionate about their community and want to be part of it. This has given them a sense of pride, they have seen their work become a reality. They know that this is their project and they are responsible for its continual development." To take part in the educational activities contact the church

Year 7 Community Week News. http://www.kearsleyacademy.org/news/year-7-community-week-news http://www.kearsleyacademy.org/news/permalink/101 Fri, 14 Dec 2012 12:27:00 +0000 You might have seen our Year 7 out and about in a week where they learned the true meaning of community spirit! From Monday 3rd December to Friday 7th December our Year 7 students were learning more about the local community. The week involved students gaining knowledge about Kearsley's history, being 'Positively Kearsley', and learning about being an active citizen. The week started with us supporting Farnworth Tesco with a collection of groceries by Year 7 for the Bolton food bank.
We are very lucky to have support from the local community including Stephen Tonge talking to students at the Kearsley Mount Methodist Church, visits from pastor Mark Curtis and local community /businesses, as well as students presenting to the Kearsley Community!
Students learned about their school community, had a workshop exploring the technological community (staying safe) and aslo saw their potential within the wider community.
You might have seen us out and about at coffee mornings, delivering hampers and generally helping our community. The week culminated in Year 7 hosting a coffee morning at Kearsley Academy on Friday 7th December 9.30-11am where they presented their learning experiences.
If you would like to know more please contact me at the Academy on 01204 332 555 - Miss M Hughes - Assistant Principal.
